RULE number one of Pudding Club; do not talk about Pudding Club.

If Masterchef’s Gregg Wallace finds out there is a monthly evening dedicated to his favourite course there will be no room for the rest of us.

Set in homely restaurant Leaf, the idea of five courses of dessert is a must for anyone with a sweet tooth but with only one problem; what do you eat before a whole meal of puddings?

With a half empty stomach (I chose to play it safe) we headed with hopes of fruity pies and anything with custard and quickly glanced across the menu of homemade goodies all complimented with five different cups of tea.

But far from a boring PG Tips brew, staff brought out champagne cassis and orange and passion fruit cuppas for us to enjoy.

Round one signalled a plate-scrapingly good sticky toffee pudding washed down with a Turkish apple tea before tastebuds journeyed to the Far East on a toffee sauce river with Szechuan roasted pineapple.

We then sampled Dublin’s best with a grand piece of chocolate and Guinness cake.

Before the final round – a shot of thick chocolate mousse – was the course that would set Gregg Wallace’s heart racing.

A white chocolate parfait with berry compote led me to the conclusion Donkey in Shrek was right, ain’t nobody ever said they don’t love parfait.

The £11.95 five courser proved to be good value for an evening out and while there may have been no hint of custard, the mix of traditional, original and delicious lived up to my high expectations.

Rule number two of Pudding Club? Do not talk about Pudding Club. It’s too good to share.
