FIVE-piece hard rock group Templar, are based in Widnes and are hoping to represent old-school heavy metal at the Warrington Music Festival.

The band formed in 2011, however, Templar’s lead vocalist Craig Middlehurst, age 26, is the most recent addition of the group having joined in April of this year, joining guitarist Jim Pierce, age 23, bassist Sam Stanley, age 22, guitarist Paul Kirby, age 24, and drummer Dave Phillips, age 21.

Templar list Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Black Sabbath as their musical influences, and pride themselves on playing music with a meaning and a melody.

Paul, from Woolston said: “Melody is music, we play music that will be remembered and that has meaning, rather than just thrashing away at our instruments like a lot of metal bands.

“All of our songs have a deep underlying meaning, about having the courage to do something and leaving a lasting impression through your actions.”

Having already lined up a gig at the Revolver Bar in Birkenhead on 26th May 2013, the band are hoping to add a headline spot at the Warrington Music Festival to their calendar.

Paul said: “It would be great to play our British style of heavy metal at the festival and represent the whole heavy metal society.”
