AN ENGAGEMENT party spiralled out of control after a guest was glassed in the head after being confronted by a gang of men.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the assault that happened at Mojos on Cairo Street on Sunday, April 21.

The 49-year-old victim was part of an engagement celebration being held there when he was hit several times in the head with a glass.

A group of five to six men were also there who were not involved in the party.

Police say that at around 1am one of the strangers became involved in an altercation with the victim, attacking him with the glass.

He was taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment to cuts to his head.

The men are described as white and in their early 20s. They were wearing smart, casual clothing.

DC Richard Kennedy said: "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the bar at the time but wasn′t part of the engagement party if they saw the altercation take place, or any event leading up to it.

"Anyone with information about the assault or the identity of the offenders should contact police in order to help us with our enquiries."
