Pupils found after a 45 minute search by police

SECURITY measures at Birchwood Primary School will be reviewed after two children went missing.

Police went to the school on Admirals Road at 11.05am on Tuesday after staff reported the missing pupils.

They had escaped after breaking through fence panels.

Officers and parents searched the area for 45 minutes before the children were found in a neighbouring skate park.

Following the incident, head teacher Brenda Bland moved to reassure parents.

She said: “This was an incident involving two pupils who left the school premises by breaking through a previously repaired section of the school fencing.

“Our staff responded immediately, searched for the pupils and followed all the correct procedures including informing parents of the children and Cheshire Police.

"The pupils were returned safely after being found in a nearby skate park.

“A review of security measures and procedures took place immediately after the incident and actions were put in place to prevent a similar situation occurring again.

“I would like to reassure parents that we are taking the matter very seriously and will ensure that we reinforce the element of personal safety within our curriculum immediately.“

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Police were called to Birchwood Primary School in Admirals Road following concerns for the welfare of two pupils.

“Officers attended the scene and a search was made for the two pupils, who were reported missing from the premises.

“The pupils returned to the school by 11.45am and police liaised with the parents of the children concerned.”
