TOP author and BAFTA-winning illustrator Curtis Jobling celebrated World Book Day with a special event at the Pyramid.

The Wereworld series author read extracts from his latest book Nest of Serpents, as well as giving a short animation session and book signing for the audience of 150 year six children.

The reading marks the start of a number of events to celebrate the town’s first literature festival, opening on April 12.

Curtis said: “My love of writing is born out of my love of reading - that passion started in Penketh library when I was maybe two or three-years-old, picking up Where The Wild Things Are for the first time, and it's never gone away.”

Maureen Banner, chairman of Culture Warrington board, said it was great to see so many children celebrate reading at the event.
