MIKE Hannon, deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council, heralded ‘a perfect day’ on Saturday.

He said: “We have put a lot of planning and preparation into this.

“The whole Warrington family has turned out which has made it all well worth it, because we didn’t let Johnathan and Tim die in vain.

“We needed to ask questions on the behalf of the Warrington community after that day.

“It was brought home to me when the plaque went missing last year.

“That reaction shows how important it is to have anniversary events.”

And the Orford councillor said he hopes the atrocity will continue to be remembered with it due to be taught as part of history lessons in schools.

He said: “It’s right and proper that it’s brought back into the curriculum of our primary schools so it will never be forgotten.

“As long as our children are growing up it’s important they learn about this to keep that memory alive.”
