A ST PATRICK’S Day parade to mark an Irish Club’s 50th anniversary saw tributes laid at the River of Life on Sunday.

Members of the Irish Club, on Orford Lane, marched into the town centre to lay wreaths at the memorial to mark the 20th anniversary of the IRA bombing.

Flowers and messages of support to the families of victims Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball were left there.

Rev Stephen Kingsnorth then lead the annual service on a busy Bridge Street, with the parade, accompanied by bagpipes, continuing around town.

Mayor Clr Steve Wright was among those taking part.

Following the service guests, many dressed in the colours of Ireland, made their way back to the Irish Club for a celebration with live music.

The St Patrick’s Day parade followed the IRA bomb memorial service, also on Bridge Street, on Saturday.

We have a strong Irish community here in Warrington with many families settling after the Potato famine, the construction of the canals and roads in the area and jobs in the heavy industry that used to abound with our boundary. Patriotic to their roots and absolutely allegiant to Warrington.
