Businesses could be saving £18.7m

BUSINESSES across the borough could be saving £18.7 million between them through appealing against their business rates.

That is the verdict of CVS, a business rates specialist, who has helped businesses in the town save £1 million.

Businesses can appeal to reduce their assessment and therefore their rates bills but the appeal process is taking at least 12 to 18 months to produce a conclusion.

CVS has found 50 per cent of their appeals result in a reduction to the rates bill.
