Bin move to take place next month
THE switch to fortnightly bin collections will take place next month.
And more than 50 per cent of people who responded to Warrington Borough Council’s consultation on the move to alternate collections were positive about the change.
Councillors heard how plans for the move are progressing at an executive board meeting at the Town Hall on Monday.
Clr David Keane, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “We had hundreds of replies to the consultation.
“We received some very supportive comments. We did receive some comments which we took on board and are making provisions for those issues.
“We have listened to our residents and are delivering a plan that will work for the town.”
Council leader Clr Terry O’Neill (LAB - Burtonwood and Winwick) added: “This is part of an overall waste strategy which will increase recycling and means less or no landfill eventually.”

The consultation was on the councils website and you could fill it in online. I tried 3 times but it kept crashing although you could print it off and post it in. I forgot.
The questions were a bit bizarre though and answers could have been evaluated in a number of ways.
Re your full blue bin, the chap at the roadshow told someone they could have a second blue bin if they wanted one and to just ring up and ask for one.
Going to the article above though where it says over 50% of people were possitive about the move to fortnightly that means rounghly the same amount of people were negative about it.
Also they say they had 'hundreds of replies to the consultation'. Not many at all then as considering number of houses in Warrington it should have been in the 1000's. Maybe people didn't know about the consultation or just didn't bother as it had already been decided anyway.

This has been on the Warrington Borough Council's agenda for some time and we have it now as policy. The next stage of any protests could be to monitor the service to our households and protest against the perceived inadequacies of the service. Your local councillor has either tacitly or actively responsible for this change in public service and should be targeted for insistent and corrective action. I guess that most people will just take a 'put-up-and-shut-up' approach to this issue. The council may have won this battle but the war certainly isn't over yet. Fight on I say, and be resolute in your actions and express your concerns passionately towards your precise targets.

Dont blame them to be honest. Its a bad enough battle at the tips. St Heath is just rediculous.
I might start posting my excess rubbish to the Town Hall.

No roadshow came here,
My neighbours say the same,
I use the rear entrance to the market so I must have missed it SAC. However I would like to thank WBC for the new 240ltr black bin they delivered today after explaining my 120ltr wouldnt last a fortnight,
They tell me I can have another blue bin if I need one, You can,t argue with that. No sir, Thats service.

My blue bin is packed full after a fortnight, and I cannot fit any more in it.
How am I to recycle more?
My black bin is 3/4 full after a week, and there are only two of us.
Am I expected to take my excess bags(s) to the tip? That should increase the carbon footprint.
I asked my local councillor whether the budget for pest control had been increased, but they are all in denial.
I have been recycling for years before the blue bin initiative, but I fail to see how this cost cutting exercise can be dressed up as a recycling initiative.
