THE number of employees at Warrington Borough Council has dropped by more than 1,500 since 2010 according to union GMB.

The union has listed the number of job cuts across the region since the Coalition Government took control and a total of 45,000 posts have gone.

In Warrington there are 1,571 fewer jobs - a 17.6 per cent reduction in positions in that time.

The figure comes as the council last week said 54 jobs would be lost in this year’s budget.

So before that reduction there were approx. 9000 employees at the council - which works out at 1 for every 14 members of the population who are of working age (16 to 64).

No wonder they needed to reduce head-count

Even if the figures were correct, they do not mean 1571 redundancies.

It just goes to show that the "jobs" weren't needed anyway and I'm sure they could chop a few more if they could really be bothered about cutting costs.
The trouble is with WBC (and every other council for that matter), is that they truly believe that the council tax paying population is there for them and not the other way round.
