CREATIVE youngsters will see their handiwork live on as part of the legacy of flood defences in Latchford.

Latchford St James’ CE Primary School pupils Jack Arrowsmith and Zac Singleton were crowned winners of an Environment Agency competition to design artwork for the flood defences at Victoria Park.

The eye-catching designs feature fish, reeds and kingfisher and will be imprinted on the new £23 million flood defences being constructed on Knutsford Road.

Second and third places were awarded to George White and Alex Spencer.

And on Tuesday the lucky youngsters got to see their designs unveiled.

Mark Garratt, flood and coastal risk manager, said: “We are thrilled with the art created by the school pupils – it’s a great way for children in the area to be involved in this project, which will have huge benefits in reducing flood risk to the community.

“We hope Jack and Zac will be proud to see their work on the flood wall, which will provide valuable protection from flooding for many years to come.”
