Care home decision due tonight
7:00am Thursday 7th March 2013 in News
The meeting will be staged at The Parr Hall
A DECISION over plans for a major dementia care unit in Penketh could finally be made tonight, Thursday.
The Warrington Guardian reported in December an application for a specialist home on Station Road could be approved if wrangles over parking problems are resolved.
The matter was set to be discussed during a development management committee meeting in January but did not make it on to the agenda as additional information has not yet been received by the council.
If approved, the existing care home at Three Elms will be developed by applicant Abbotsford Care Ltd but neighbours expressed fears this would cause traffic and parking problems.

Whilst dementia care is quite rightly an emotive subject, there are clearly a large number of empty beds in the Warrington area and so that being the case, there is clearly not enough current need for another care unit.
There are a couple of sites already approved for dementia care within striking distance of this site, which have not been built and there are also empty care home properties (or previous care home properties) that could easily be used before a new building is erected in the Green Belt, to address a need that clearly has not been demonstrtaed to exist.
