FINDING out what Warrington Borough Council is doing in your street should never be easier as councillors look at how requests are dealt with.

Liberal Democrat councillors Bob Barr and Keith Gleave put forward a motion to full council on Monday to call on the council to make it easier for people to track requests for things like street lighting repair online.

Clr Bob Barr said: “This administration promised to be the most open and transparent Warrington has ever had and that dealings with the council should be ‘digital by default’.

“We are ensuring that the council lives up to these promises and improves service while saving money in the process.”

Councillors voted in favour of the motion which will now go to a committee hearing to look how people can be kept up-to-date on developments easier.

I know lets spend a heap more of tax money on a IT system that wont actually do anything, but some one will come up with some figure that will end up costing more jobs...

How about instead of coming up with the idea, come up with the solution also, or will you leave that to the WBC staff, wait till something goes wrong, and blame them for all the problems...

The current administration came to power with the promise of greater openness and clarity of purpose. No sooner they had been elected than they lapsed into what has been the norm for Warrington for decades - say as little as possible and keep the electorate in the dark.
Don't be fooled by the latest vote in favour of more transparency, when it suits them they will again revert to type or just like the Conservatives, abstain.

Terry O'Neill was on here whinging about the cost of freedom of information - us plebs daring to find what our council is up to- quoting quite frankly unbelievable claims about the cost.

If most information was available on line to us peasants then it could save money.

Presumably most information can be accessed electronically by our lords and masters at the Town Hall. it shouldn't be too arduous a task to let us mere mortals have access.

What have they got to hide?
