Police patrols increased in Whitecross after cannabis raid
AROUND 50 cannabis plants have been seized by police in Whitecross after they received a tip-off.
Officers went to the address on Hoyle Street at 5pm on Tuesday.
They recovered the plants after being passed on information by residents.
Police say no one has yet been arrested, with enquiries ongoing.
Patrols have also been increased around Whitecross Road and Leicester Street in a bid to deter drug activity.
Residents have also reported incidents of anti-social behaviour were made to Warrington West NPU.
Insp Rob Dickinson, who recently took over the unit, said: “There has been a very positive response to the operation and we are really pleased to see people engaging with officers and talking to them about any issues that are affecting them.
“The policing team is committed to working with people to tackle the issues that really matter to them.
“Suspected drug related activity in the area has been highlighted and, in response to concerns raised, we have stepped up patrols in the area.
“We are urging residents to stop and speak to officers and air their concerns.”
To report drug activity in the area call the neighbourhood unit on 101.

based on the figures you have in your comment
I think you have just shot down your own arguement there...
It is MORE intoxicating...
Doesn't matter if there is less dependance...it's that it is MORE INTOXICATING....
Hence more people do it, more people continue to do it...becasue of it's intoxication level...!!
Crime goes up to fund this "intoxicating" habit....they are addicted to the intoxicating properties of cannabis...
Don't forget , that most cannabis is ADDED to tobacco (nicotine) so how does that compare..!?
No doubt there will be more "copy & pasters" to come...always is when there is an article about Cannabis & Police...yawn....zzz

Saysitasitis has a good point,
Also if it isnt so addictive why do so many people do so many stupid things in order to get the money to pay for it,
Thieves and Burglars are always telling the courts that the do it to pay for their addiction,
You cant have it both ways surely.

I shall put it another way.
Hoyle st. is nowhere near Leicester St. or Whitecross Rd.
I'm not being pedantic, I just can't see a connection in the story.

Dr. Jack E. Henningfield of the National Institute on Drug Abuse and Dr. Neal L. Benowitz of the University of California at San Francisco ranked six psychoactive substances on five criteria.
Withdrawal -- The severity of withdrawal symptoms produced by stopping the use of the drug.
Reinforcement -- The drug's tendency to induce users to take it again and again.
Tolerance -- The user's need to have ever-increasing doses to get the same effect.
Dependence -- The difficulty in quitting, or staying off the drug, the number of users who eventually become dependent
Intoxication -- The degree of intoxication produced by the drug in typical use.
The tables listed below show the rankings given for each of the drugs. Overall, their evaluations for the drugs are very consistent. It is notable that marijuana ranks below caffeine in most addictive criteria, while alcohol and tobacco are near the top of the scale in many areas.
The rating scale is from 1 to 6 --- 1 denotes the drug with the strongest addictive tendencies, while 6 denotes the drug with the least addictive tendencies.
