Plans for new life at Fordton to be discussed
8:18am Friday 1st March 2013 in News
Fordton being demolished
PLANS for a supermarket, shops and pub on the former Fordton Leisure Centre site will be discussed by councillors next week.
The leisure centre, off Winwick Road, closed last year when the new Orford Park facility opened.
Now plans for a widescale development of the empty site are set to be discussed by Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee.
The proposal includes the supermarket, two shops, a pub/restaurant and a drive through coffee shop and will be debated on Thursday in the Parr Hall.
Three neighbours have complained saying the development would lead to far greater traffic problems than the previous leisure centre.
Planning officers have recommended that the application be approved.

Not too surprising from a party whose local Youth Wing protested against the possibility of a referendum on the EU - not even in support of a yes vote, but about the prospect of us plebs having our say.

The Blackburn arms and even one in L.A bowl,

Perhaps more objections would have been received if the council hadn't treated it as a state secret. They don't trust us to vote on the council tax (keeping the increase just below the limit for a referendum) and won't let us know what is being planned in our town on what was publicly owned land. How much the officers are in charge at the council is debatable - what is clear is that the views of the people don't matter to the Labour junta.

The values of the bid may well be commercially sensitive but not the nature of prospective developers plans, with council support for these plans apparently a pre-condition of any sale.

Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

As for a drive through coffee shop the mind boggles,
Anyway you shouldn,t drink and drive,
We have known about these plans for months so its been no secret,
The Spa brook however is rumoured to be turned into police detention cells, Dont take that as gospel..

This really is old news. The council announced the plans were available to view and invited objections months ago. There was nothing hidden about this at all. It has been in the public domain for ages so why are some people weeping and wailing now? This part of Warrington is in desperate need of some quality shopping area as the ones we have are so run down mostly the are a disgrace to the area. We need to upgrade this area and this development can only be a good thing

I am not a supporter of this council but this deal has not been hidden at all and has been publicised both in the WG and in several public notices and the plans have been available for inspection both in person and on the internet. Again I say this is a much needed development in an area that really needs it. I can see this becoming a travellers site very soon if development is delayed for too long and how many people would want that?

A school would be very well placed, Its a long walk to long lane on little legs,
St Stephens is pure Catholic and St Andrews Is full to the brim, There used to be a Longford juniors on Gough avenue many years ago before the bungalows were built.

If its made into a youth centre it would be council funded,
I cant see this council paying for it, Thats why they want to sell it to developers, Selling public owned property is a hoby of this council,
