POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 60-year-old man was attacked by a gang of men close to Woolston Linear Park.

The victim was walking along the pathway between Longbarn Lane and Kingsland Grange, near to the entrance of the park.

He was approached by six men who attacked him.

The incident happened at 4.50am on Tuesday, February 19.

Officers say the victim was taken to hospital to be treated for bruises and are appealing for information.

The men are described as being about 5ft 9ins tall and were wearing beanie hats.

One man was wearing a reflective bomber jacket and had a rucksack on his back.

Anyone with any information can police on 101 quoting incident number 93 of February 19.

Insp Kate Tomlinson, of Warrington East NPU, moved to address fears of similar attacks happening near the park.

She said: “Since the start of the year Warrington East NPU has received no reports of gangs hanging around Woolston Linear Park.

"If residents have any concerns regarding criminal or anti-social activity in and around the park then we would urge them to come forward and report it.

“Officers regularly patrol the area as part of their daily duties and people are encouraged to speak to their local officer if they have any issues or concerns.”
