Fish fan takes to the saddle

A BIRCHWOOD man will begin his bid to cycle from Widnes to Hull tomorrow, Thursday, to raise money for a boy with cerebral palsy.

Martyn Hatton, a 36-year-old tropical fish enthusiast, will take on the 170 mile ride over three days for Cain Burns.

The six-year-old needs to go to America for specialist treatment to help him walk.

Martyn, of Whitethroat Walk, met the youngster’s family when he saw them advertising a tropical fish tank for sale to help raise money for the treatment.

Instead of them having to sale the tank they decided on fundraising events for the treatment instead.

He said: “I had seen on an internet forum the boy’s dad needed cash and was selling the tank.

“I decided to raise some money for them and have got £220 so far.

“This will be the furthest I’ve biked - I’m prepared but a little bit scared, too.”
