A WOMAN was taken to hospital following a fire in Great Sankey on Sunday morning.
Crews were called around 7am to the home on Blandford Road which was on fire.
Four firefighters used breathing equipment to enter the home and the woman resident was taken to Warrington Hospital.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire said the cause is under investigation.
Fire crews put out the fire and checked the neighbouring property which was slightly smoke logged.
Operational Planning Manager Tony O'Dwyer, who attended the incident said: "When crews arrived they were confronted with a very challenging fire located in the first floor bedroom and the occupier still inside.
"Crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued the casualty from the head of the stairs and then extinguished the fire using hose reel jets.
"The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
