LOLLIPOP ladies have been axed from four locations in the town with parents claiming the move will put childrens’ lives at risk.

School Crossing Patrol Officers have been removed from Hallfields Road in Orford, The Cross in Lymm and Poplars Avenue in Orford.

They have also been removed from Northway in Orford, where there were two patrols.

Mum-of-three Charlotte Sutcliffe, aged 24, of Smith Drive, Orford, walks son Taylor, aged 4, to school along with Bobby, aged 1, and Imogen, aged three months.

He attends Beamont Primary School on O’Leary Street, a route she says is now too dangerous.

She said: “There have been numerous occasions where my little boy could have been killed.

“It is absolutely impossible to cross as all of the inconsiderate drivers just simply will not let you.

“Just because the council says not enough children are crossing the road, why should my children be put in danger?

“I went to school here myself and there has always been one there.

“A lollipop lady is most definitely needed.”

Mrs Sutcliffe, who works as a nail technician at Limelight hair and beauty salon on Marsh House Lane in Padgate, is calling for the SCPO to be replaced.

She added: “Something has to be done about this before a child is killed.”

Warrington Borough Council has changed its criteria of how to assess where a SCPO is needed, leading to the staff cuts.

It has deviated from national guidelines set by Road Safety Great Britain to do so.

At least 15 children have to cross a road during the busiest half an hour of the day to merit a SCPO being put on duty there.

The council says it will give ‘greater flexibility to meet specific community needs’.

A council spokesman said: “The sites have fallen below the minimum criteria needed to introduce a School Crossing Patrol Officer.

“The council will carry out traffic and pedestrian surveys before deciding if a replacement is needed.”
