Seventeen workers in town 'blacklisted'

First published in News

THERE are 17 construction workers in Warrington blacklisted against employment for being part of a union, officials claim.

GMB, the union for construction workers, says 507 workers in the north west were put onto a list seized by the Information Commissioners Office in 2009.

It was used by companies to vet potential recruits and check if they had been involved in any industrial action.

The union is now pushing for those workers who may have missed out on jobs to be given compensation.

They want anyone who feels they may have been affected by the blacklist to get in touch by calling Phil Read at GMB on 01603 742 877.

The unions have done a lot for workers in the past, decent living wage, pay rise once a year, workers rights,.Not anymore its no pay rises, crap wages,if you work over you don't get any extra...And who have we got to thank for that......This country has gone to the dogs.

Any company who doesn't want its employees to receive trade union protection is obviously up to no good.

Absolute disgrace ! There are some parts of society that won't be happy till workers have to line up against a wall till they are chosen for a days work by the foreman. Wait a minute ,we have that already with employment agencies.

What can I say that hasnt already been said,
The last ten years have seen this country going backwards instead of forwards,
This country wants to get up of its ar5e and do something about it because this government doesnt give a monkeys left nut about workers rights and union agreements, They change employment laws to suit themselves.
Come april when a lot of people wake up and see the depth of depravity this goverment has sunk to may find it too late. Thatcher was an angel compared to this shower of cretins.

Hang on......union officials are CLAIMING that 500+ workers are blacklisted because of union activities. Based on? Has anybody seen this list? Can they prove it has been used to "blacklist" people? The list was SEIZED in by the ICO in 2009 from whom/on what grounds. As regards companies using the list to vet candidates..........
from previous experience, so much in the construction industry (both employer and employee related) is by word of mouth, its probably not worth the paper it was written on.
