Dog choker abandons appeal

A DOG owner who choked his pet to death with its lead has abandoned his appeal against a 20 week prison sentence.

Leslie Bassnett, aged 21, of Arpley Street, had lodged an appeal against the conviction for strangling dog Tyson on the grounds it had attacked him.

He has now abandoned that appeal.

It means he will spend 10 weeks in prison, as defendants normally serve half of the sentence passed.

Bassnett - who calls himself ‘Les Stoner Bassnett’ on his Facebook page - is due to be released at the start of March.

He was jailed in December for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

The attack, branded ‘despicable’ by the RSPCA, saw him pull the Staffordshire bull terrier’s choke chain around its legs and neck, choking it to death.

During the trial Warrington Magistrates Court heard he wanted to show the animal ‘who was boss’.

'Who's the boss?' The prison warden lad...the prison warden. Should've got 20 years never mind 20 weeks. What is the point in giving a prison sentence of 20 weeks when they only serve 10 anyway. Just say it's 10 weeks in the first place. It's a joke. If it's 20 weeks, it's 20 weeks. 'Oh we'll halve it because they've been good little criminals'.

Dear Hobs and co at the warrington local rag - please treat all people with respect regardless of there backgrounds. I do not condone what this guy as done but all people must be addressed by either 1st name or courtesy title in all written communications and at all times. You are not acting on behalf of the general public and your not the victim !

Mr. Mackie, maybe when this scum is released you can let him stay with you for a while and see how much respect he shows you. I'm quite sure after a few weeks you won't be calling him Mr. Bassnett anymore.
There is nothing in the report suggesting anything about his background, it's purely stating what this lowlife did.

'Treat all people with respect'. Even someone that has choked his own dog to death. You have to earn respect. Do you think this idiot has any respect for anybody or anything? I think not. Let him come round yours and choke your dog to death and then see how much respect you have for him. God, the PC brigade bore me!
