Lois' death was accidental

A FORMER Great Sankey High School pupil who died during her second solo hang-gliding flight may have crashed because she did not want to repeat what she perceived as a previous mistake, an inquest has heard.

Lois Preston, aged 16, died in hospital after suffering a severe head injury during the accident in Derbyshire in October 2011.

Her instructor said following Lois’ first flight Lois thought she had over-corrected and said: "I know what I did wrong and it won't happen again."

But the inquest jury heard the JLS fan’s first flight was in fact ‘absolutely flawless.’ She experienced ‘lock out’ during the second flight, which is similar to when a kite suddenly loses control, before plunging to the ground.

The inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death.
