AN Appleton granddad is hoping to pedal his way to more than £1,500 for life-saving equipment.

Ray Barnes, aged 58, will be cycling 300 miles from London to Paris in April and has chosen defibrillator charity Ciaran’s Cause to raise funds for after reading about the charity.

The cause was set up after seven-year-old Locking Stumps Primary School pupil Ciaran Latham-Geddes died of a suspected cardiac arrest outside his school last year while he was playing football.

Father-of-two Ray said: “I wanted to do the ride to get fit and was looking for a charity in the area.

“Ciaran’s Cause is a very poignant charity which affects young people in the area and the ride will start on the one year anniversary of Ciaran’s death.

“I’ve explained to the family what I want to do and they have been very supportive.”

The four day trip fnishes underneath the Eiffel Tower where the business support manager’s wife Barbara, aged 53, will be waiting for him.Visit justgiving.com/ray-barnes.
