Pot hole problem deepens
11:00am Friday 8th February 2013 in News
AFTER more than two months of complaints, a pub landlord is still waiting for pot holes which have caused damage to numerous cars to be fixed in Penketh.
Andrew Mulholland, who runs the Ferry Tavern with his wife Jade, was reassured in November the foot-deep pot holes would be filled ‘soon’ by Network Rail.
But instead some were tarmacked while others were filled with loose gravel and a skip has been abandoned on the Station Road pub car park.
The 34-year-old said: “The contractors came into the pub and asked if they could put the skip in the car park and I said I didn’t mind as long as the road was getting repaired.
“But then after three days they didn’t come back and had filled in two thirds of the holes with loose grave so within a few days we were left with massive pot holes again.
“My car park has now become the local dumping ground and everytime I call Network Rail someone promises to get back to me but nothing happens, it’s so frustrating.”
The Warrington Guardian reported the problem in November last year after reports two cars’ wheels had come off after attempting to drive over the pot holes.
Pedestrians have also fell foul with trips and falls leading to broken ankles and a cyclist was taken to hospital with leg injuries after colliding with a car who was swerving to avoid the holes which have been a problem for more than five years.
Andy added: “I have to keep emptying the skip which is an absolute eye sore and the road is still as horrendous as it ever was.
“It’s affecting us and our customers driving down here.”
