HIGH winds have blown off part of the roof from a garage at Arnold Clark in Gemini.

Emergency services were called about 1pm and have closed Cromwell Avenue.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said nobody has been injured but that a piece of the roof had been blown off between the garage and Toys 'R' Us.

Two engines from Warrington Fire Station were called.

A spokesman for Arnold Clark said the dealership was open as usual.

And the high winds have also seen a tree fall in the playground of Woolston Community Primary School on Hall Road.

Staff say that no one was hurt, with a team from Warrington Borough Council working to remove the tree.

It has also been reported that a tree has fallen nearby at St Peter's Primary School on Hillock Lane.

Meanwhile motorists are being urged to take care on the roads after winds of 53mph were recorded on the Thelwall Viaduct this morning.

The Highways Agency say the strong gusts are expected to last until 3pm and are advising motorists to keep to 50mph speed limits on the bridge.

Extra Highways Agency patrols are being positioned at spots likely to face the strongest winds but so far there have been no accidents.

Drivers are urged to check weather and road conditions before travelling with live information at highways.gov.uk or from the Highways Agency Information Line on 0300 123 5000.
