MOTORISTS are being urged to take care on the roads after winds of 67mph were recorded on the Thelwall Viaduct.

Earlier in the day wind gusts reached 53mph on the viaduct.

The Highways Agency say the strong gusts are expected to last until 3pm and are advising motorists to keep to 50mph speed limits on the bridge.

Extra Highways Agency patrols are being positioned at spots likely to face the strongest winds but so far there have been no accidents.

A further amber alert has also been issued for tomorrow from 10am to 7pm for windy conditions.

Drivers are urged to check weather and road conditions before travelling with live information at highways.gov.uk or from the Highways Agency Information Line on 0300 123 5000.
