Little in HS2 plans to benefit Warrington - council chief says

High Speed two trains will not stop in Warrington
COUNCIL boss Steven Broomhead says upgrading the existing west coast mainline for High Speed Two should be considered - as there is little in the current plans to benefit Warrington.
Mr Broomhead, interim chief executive at Warrington Borough Council, spoke out after it was confirmed on Monday that the town had missed out on being chosen as a station for the new high speed service.
To compound matters, the Government plans to install two HS2 stations in Manchester which would see nature reserves in Culcheth, Glazebury and Hollins Green carved up to allow the track to rejoin the mainline at Wigan.
Mr Broomhead said: “At the moment there is very little to benefit Warrington.
“I am of the view that we should also upgrade the line from Crewe to WIgan so that is HS2 compatible.
“Why not do that as well as the current scheme so that we can have our own HS2 stop in Warrington? There could also be a revamp of Warrington Bank Quay station.
“At the moment, we have a service which is under two hours and most people think that is good. My job is to make sure we feel the full benefits from HS2.”
The £32billion scheme is due to open in 2032 and would see trains travel at more than 200mph.

- this is an issue that is more important than that.
However , if he is going to cut and paste declerations from the party's central politburo, about transport issues, then he should include the following
> as a party to the right of the tories, UKIP has a natural dislike of public transport (bit socialist don't you know - having to sit with all those plebs ! ) and dislikes expenditure on it at all - (for the same reason they would attack expenditure on the NHS, education etc. etc.)
> therefore, they would rather spend such money on roads - or to quote their website "building new bypasses and widening major roads" so a railway cutting through somewhere like the linear park, bad, a road built though it, good.”

Dont start trying to run the railways because you cant do a good job of running the council.

IT ACTUALLY SAYS - "Towns across the wider North West will also gain quicker journeys from HS2, with direct HS2 trains able to run to Carlisle, Lancaster, Preston, Wigan,
Warrington and Runcorn."
They may be "able to run" because the lines are electrified. However HS2 tracks will NOT run through Warrington or Runcorn Stations. HS2 trains heading north of Warrington will use the HS2 track avoiding Warrington Bank Quay straight up to Wigan - logical. (The map shows this)
The very last line in your ref to document link I think summarises properly!!!
"HS2 trains (purple) will pass through Crewe , serving Manchester and the north but also connecting with route to Runcorn, Liverpool and Warrington."
Warrington is not on the HS2 line.
To me, it makes sense and saves a lot of money to improve the West Coast Mainline northwards to Glasgow from Crewe. This saves this ridiculous spur running through Warrington Green Belt land to Wigan.
The Central Gov planners must have a real downer on Warrington for some reason. They're in the process of creating a line from Crewe to Wigan which quite simply misses us out BUT runs through some of our most beautiful countryside. Warrington (and Merseyside) missing out......
