WARRINGTON Guardian readers have helped a petition to make it compulsory for every school to have a defibrillator hit more than 1,000 signatures.

Birchwood mum Marika Latham launched the campaign after her seven-year-old son Ciaran died of a cardiac arrest in April last year.

The 33-year-old, who set up the charity Ciaran’s Cause to raise cash for defibrillators, is now looking for people who have survived thanks to the life-saving equipment.

She said: “We will be travelling to Westminster for a meeting organised by the shadow health secretary Andy Burnham MP and we would like to hear from anyone whose life has been saved by the use of a defibrillator.

“We believe we have a strong case to put forward but would like to make it even stronger with supporting evidence.”

Anyone who can help should e-mail enquiries@ciaranscause.co.uk and personal details will not be made public.
