A WAR zone chef has swapped cooking for Britain’s military for feeding an army of much smaller mouths.

Shaun Fairhurst, aged 39, is the new chef at Cottontails Day Nursery, Burtonwood after spending 12 years with the RAF in dangerous outposts including Kosovo and The Falklands.

The father-of-three, from Lowton, prepared meals for soldiers protecting Pristina Airport, Kosovo, from a terrorist attack and said his four months in the country were ‘pretty frightening from day one’.

He added: “You just had to keep your head down, get on with your job and take care.

“Thankfully the nursery is a different life altogether and could not be more peaceful.

“We had an important role in the military as the soldiers needed food for fuel and for morale.

“It was one of the highlights of their day and the same is true for the children.”
