THE USA team will stay in Stretton during this year’s Rugby League World Cup - despite the contract being handed to neighbouring Halton.

A meeting in Warrington on Thursday morning was told the US side, one of the lowest ranked teams to qualify for the October and November event, were due to stay in Runcorn or Widnes for the tournament.

They will be training in the borough for the cup, but the team will be staying at The Park Royal hotel in Stretton.

The meeting heard there have been ‘difficulties’ with hotels in Runcorn and Widnes.

The Samoan side will stay at The Village Hotel in the town centre.
