OMEGA will not be one of the sites the Government looks at for a new ‘super prison’.

Justice secretary Chris Grayling confirmed he would not look at the business park which straddles the M62 as a potential spot for the 2,000 capacity prison the Government plans to build.

He gave the assurance after Warrington South MP David Mowat sought a meeting with the minister over the matter.

Mr Mowat said: “I am pleased that the threat of a super-prison has been lifted. The Omega site was meant to create jobs and growth for the people of Warrington, not used a warehouse for criminals.

“I sought a meeting with Chris Grayling at the earliest opportunity to get him to rule out Omega and I’m pleased that that has now happened.”

What a pity it's not going to happen during this parliament.

The rumours can be seen for what they were - scaremongering by the Labour junta's propoganda department.

Does Warrington Labour really see worrying people as justifiable just to gain political capital and/or distract from their own performance locally?

Ironic that when there was such a plan it was under Jack Straw, the Labour Justice secretary - something which doesn't fit with their conveniently revisionist, or to be charitable amnesiac, view of the history of the last Labour Governent.
