COUNCIL bosses say around 1,500 tonnes of grit are in stock ahead of today's snow.

Some light snow fell on Thursday night and it has started to fall more heavily across the town this morning.

Bin routes are running as normal and all schools in Warrington have opened.

Although children at Great Sankey High School have just been sent home for the day

Gritters have been sent out and about and the heaviest snowfall is expected between 2pm and 5pm.

Network Warrington has also announced there is currently no delays to its bus services in the town. 

Virgin trains has just announced that all ticket restrictions will be lifted for the remainder of the day, although it hopes to run its full service of trains.

Northern Rail is advising passengers to check before travelling today. A spokesman said they expect there to be a normal service but visit http://www.journeycheck.com/northernrail before travelling.
