Defrosting car stolen in Old Hall

A CAR has been stolen in Old Hall after its owner left it defrosting on the driveway.

The incident was reported to police at 9.10am on Tuesday.

The Renault Megane was left with its engine running outside of a property on Cabot Close.

It was later found abandoned in Norlands Lane in Widnes.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He remains in custody.

Police are renewing their appeal warning drivers not to leave cars unsupervised.

DS Ian Alldred, of the northern area proactive policing team, said: “We cannot stress how important it is not to leave your vehicle defrosting on the driveway with the keys in the ignition.

“It only takes a matter of minutes for someone to get into a car and drive off if the engine is running and there is no one else around.

“Ensure you stay with your vehicle at all times when defrosting it, be more aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity immediately.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.

Start the car, Leave it running,

Then useing the spare key lock it up again, Simples..

If the car is stolen unlocked and running your insurance company will not pay out.

But then all someone has to do is break the window and they've got the keys. . . . im guessing you would have trouble with insurance for that as well. i've got a great idea, how about staying with the car while it defrosts

It is an offence under the Police Constable (proper use of) regulations 1899 to use a Police Officer to write shopping lists on.

No sympathy for them.
Every year someone gets his/her car stolen when leaving it to defrost.
Every year the police give the same advice about not doing so.
Still they do it.
Serves them right if they come out and find the car gone.

*its should be it's, as in it is.

If you are going to try to correct someone’s grammar, make sure you don’t make an error yourself.

Some people just like coming on here to be insulting to others..But as you say HulkHogan he needs to look at his own grammar and make sure its correct.(spelled and nuggett).

Do as the others are doing and get a spare key to lock it up after starting it, or do what most Canadians do and that is to get a remote car starter installed, for the temperature here today is -24 degrees C and most of us do not go outside. We just point it at the car from inside the building that we are in and the car starts from about 320 yards away. The car is safe, for you have the key in your hand. Moreover, you can get a simple starter-one that starts, unlocks and alarms it, or one with more options-one that will turn your heat up on the defrost or cool the car with the AC turned on.
Furthermore, we also have block heater on the car to save the battery when temperatures plummet, for it makes cranking of engine easer and you don't drain the battery.

You seem to be having a lot more bad weather than I can remember when I lived there.

I donlt know about Canada, but in the UK if the car is on a road, then it is illegal for the engine to be running with the driver not there.

Anyone doing this will find their insurance invalid if a window is broken and the car stolen anyway. And you deserve the loss!

thieves want as easy steal as possible the last thing they want to happen is making to much noise so smashing a car window is very unlikely. And you deserve your reply!
