Roads close for traveller funeral

LARGE parts of Warrington were closed to traffic today while a traveller funeral passed through town.

The funeral of Tom Mongan took place in St Helens this morning and the cortege came through Warrington this afternoon before heading to Preston.

Mr Mongan worked in a factory unit off Manchester Road before his death. The cortege stopped for around half an hour while the group paid their respects.

Escorts from the police joined the group as the travelled from St Helens, via Burtonwood, Westbrook and Orford.

If I wanted to drive through the town with two mates hanging off my car like the two in the photos do you think the Police would provide an escort - or prosecute me.


I don'e a flying ***** how much he was respected in his community, even he was a capo de capo or the equivalent - that does not give his mob the right to seriously inconvenience or ignore the laws of the wider community.

I agree Nick Tessla......there are hundreds of well respected people who have funerals every day all over this land, but they dont have roads closed for them......and who has paid the cost of policing this...?

If you put - traveller funeral - into Google News you will see that Warrington wasn't the only town let down by their local authority and police force - those bodies are not just guilty of neglecting their duties to the community but in aiding and abetting the disruption caused to the people who will end up footing the bill through their taxes.

As usual another law for "travellers" although they dont seem to travel much preferring to find a nice empty spot and apply for planning! This country bends over backwards for jobless, gypsys etc.. where us who earna crust get taxed to death so they can have police escorted funeral cortege with mullet haircutted lads hanging out moving cars all cause "he was respected" do me a favour! id get locked up if i did the same! its pathetic!! sooner my Australia visa arrives the better!

We buried my fiance's dad in September and it was during the day but we never had roads closed or had a police escort, it was thanks to decent people in Warrington we got from the church up to Fox Covert cemetery. This is a complete joke especially when you look at the cars they have, considering they don't pay taxes how on earth can they afford these kind of cars !!!

I thought the same but didnt want the dogooders calling me racist,

We passed them in Burtonwood but it was a different vehicle they were standing either side of, think it was a van/truck. Funny how the authorities can turn a blind eye. Thought we'd avoided the convoy but they must have been running late. Counted 8 stretched Hummas though
