'Hard working' families being hit by Government - MP claims

Labour MP Helen Jones Labour MP Helen Jones

HELEN Jones MP has hit back at claims that Chancellor George Osborne is cracking down on the benefits culture that rewards skivers and shirkers.

The Warrington North MP said it is actually hard-working families in Warrington that are being hit the hardest.

Despite the Chancellor's claim, Mrs Jones said 60 per cent of the people affected by the Government's changes to tax credits and benefits are actually employed..

"The people that are losing out here aren't skivers; they're strivers. Over 14,000 people in Warrington currently receive working tax credits," said Mrs Jones.

"It is hard-working people like these, trying to do the right thing, who are paying the price for the Tories' economic failures."

I think it was Labour that got us into this mess in the first place having a spend spend spend attutude so no matter which party was in government now the same cuts would have to be made, or maybe not in labour;s case and just keep spending and bankrupt the country!

Of course he did he's a Tory.

This action is just the sort of thing that his lot would want to do regardless of the state of the economy and public sector finances. Those are the excuses his nasty little gang needed - not the prime motivation to hit the most vulnerable.

As has been pointed out the majority hit, with a what amounts to a reduction in real terms are, to use the language of the millionaire's and Tax avioder's party, strivers not skivers.

There are other options - bring capital gains to the same level as the income tax people pay on the money earnt from their labour being just one.

Yes we know that Helen Jones and her Labour Government doesn't believe in "cracking down on the "benefits culture". We all know that there are "skivers and shirkers" and unfortunately to get at them some others will take a hit. But who has perpetuated this situation? It is totally out of control where where people earning over £60,000 - £70,000 are being paid "benefits".I'm a pensioner ..never had a 'benefit' in my life!
Labour won't grasp the nettle...lose too many votes!..this government has the courage to try to get things right for our grandchildren; otherwise there is no hope for them!
The welfare system was designed to help people who hit hard times. Out of work, disabled etc. not for everyone in work or to fork out £thousands of pounds for people to live in £million pound houses in London.
