MP calls on bin charge re-think MP calls on bin charge re-think

HELEN Jones MP is calling on the council to re-think their refuse bin replacement policy.

Over the past couple of months, the Warrington North MP has received a number or complaints from constituents who have had their refuse bins either stolen or vandalised.

Residents have been told that they must pay £30 for a new bin when registering the loss.

"It can't be right that people who have been subjected to a crime are then charged for a replacement bin," she said.

"I hope the council will re-think their stance. Thirty pounds is a lot of money for a pensioner or for cash strapped families struggling their way through the recession."

You tell them girl, the Labour Council - honestly what are they like - now wonder you're an MP for the - oh , you're Labour as well aren't you.

:-)

The other parties don't need to campaign - Labour will just carry on infighting and do their job for them.

If the bins are stolen/vandalized at properties that have the facility to store them out of the way then yes the reseidents should be charged. So often bins are left in the street because people are just too lazy to move them back in to their property boundaries. It is a totally different issue if there is no space at a property to store the bins.

This is another stupid policy brought in by the O'Neill council and his incompetent cohorts. No, residents shouldn't be charged. If the council want you to put your bin our for collection and it gets pinched whilst waiting for the dustmen to come and pick it up, why should you pay?

At least Ms Jones is only saying what the rest of us are thinking, doesn't matter if Labour are running the council or not. Good on her for once, I say.

And so tojah, if my bin were stolen whilst I am at work all day, on a day when I put it near the edge of my property in the morning AS TOLD TO, but the binmen leave it in the middle of the pavement after they have emptied it, who should be liable.

In the street where I live:-
8am, all properties will have their bins at the edge of their properties for collection

in the middle of the afternoon, you will probably see about 20 bins in the middle of the payment (and if windy maybe the middle of the road!).

6pm (ish), all nicely put back inside their boundaries.

Its not laziness, its called going out to work all day, and council employee not be bothered to return the bin from where they got it.

So tell me tojaehome, who should pay if my bin is knicked or burnt?

I agree - but I wonder if she even bothered speaking to O'Neill before running to the press or thought that would be a pointless exercise- and , if she did contact him, what response she got from her party "colleague".

Warrington Guardian are a bit late with the publicity on this as the bin charges were dropped about a month ago : / Charges were in place between April and November. My personal opinion, bin charges increased the number of bins that were stolen and fly tipping cases. I do agree that a change needs to be made to prevent lazy people leaving there bins out permanently

Glad to see that our MP is so up to date with her information about her constituency

What can we expect from her next - should local schools invest in this new-fangled VHS system or betamax, whether our currency will go decimal or the prospect of ending the clothing ration now that the WWII is over ?
