Free parking at Cockhedge in January

MOTORISTS can park for free at Cockhedge Shopping Centre this month.

Throughout January, owners are allowing shoppers to park without the usual charges.

Centre manager George Wesson said: “We know that the period just after Christmas can be financially tough for business and families so we are delighted to be able to do something to ease the burden.

“Hopefully people will take this opportunity to take advantage of some of the fantastic sales and pick up a bargain or two.”

Completely brilliant.

And this only a few weeks after parking charges are extended in areas where small businesses are really struggling to attract a few extra customers per day.

Always used to be free before they got greedy and started charging. No other retail park charges. Should be like riverside retail park.

Just for January? How about making it free all the time and boosting revenue all year round? I found it ridiculous when Cockhedge first started charging in the first place (unless you spend £5 in Asda) How does that work if you've just spent £500 in Argos and then have to pay? The parking charging system in the whole town centre needs to be looked at and revised/abolished. Why would anybody want to come and shop here and have to pay for the privilege of parking when they can go to the Trafford Centre and park for free?

Agreed ! time to have a complete overhaul regarding parking charges etc., The council need to find out where all the missing shoppers are going my guess is the Trafford Centre and Widnes (free parking??)
