SEVEN couples from the town spent the first day of 2013 at Warrington Hospital’s maternity unit.

Amelia Lucie Baird was the first baby to be born on New Year’s Day weighing 9lb 6oz at 2.37am.

Parents Hannah and Robert Baird, from Appleton, said they were enjoying watching the fireworks on the way to the hospital at 12.30pm before Hannah, aged 31, gave birth.

Millie Ross followed after Orford mum Carla Charnock, aged 21, gave birth at 6.04am weighing 9lb 4oz.

Sindija Kozlovska, aged 16, and Raitis Sirmanis, aged 24, were also celebrating after Adriana Sirmone was born at 20.12pm.

The name of Newton mum Victoria Ward’s New Year baby was decided by his big sister Macey, aged three.

Elijah Ward was born at 13.23pm weighing 7lb 1oz.

The 29-year-old said: “We started calling the baby Elijah as a bit of a joke after the actor Elijah Wood because the name sounded similar to Ward but then Macey wouldn’t have any other name so it stuck.”

The last babies of 2012 were twins Phoebe and Scarlett Heyes who were born at 9.30 and 9.40pm weighing 6lb 4oz and 6lb.

It means a busy new year for proud parents David, aged 27, and Liz, aged 26, who already have two boys Finlay, aged six, and Riley, aged four.

Three babies were also born on Christmas day with the first being welcomed to the world at 5.32am.
