Traveller plan set to be turned down

David Mowat David Mowat

PLANS for 10 new traveller caravans to move onto land in Grappenhall are set to be turned down.

The Smith family want to extend current permission, granted in 2008, for two mobile homes on land at Cartridge Lane in the village.

But they also want to site 10 new caravans on the land.

The application is set to be discussed by members of the development management committee, today, Thursday.

Planning officers have recommended the scheme be refused, claiming it is overdevelopment in the green belt.

Among the objectors are Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council, Appleton Parish Council and Warrington South MP David Mowat.

Mr Mowat says the increase to 10 caravans would be too great in the countryside.

What about their human rights? If one is a traveller one requires a base to travel from. Due consideration in this circumstance for it is their land and they are jumping through the same planning hoops that you or I would have done in similar circumstances.

Human rights comes with human responsibilities! such as paying tax on earnings to pay for things like the NHS they use, dental care, also there is care and consideration to those who you live near.....maybe you should make your statement to those who are constantly blighted by travellers when they pitch up in regular areas in warrington and cause problems? or leave human waste in bushes that we have to pay to have removed?

With reference to chunkymunky's comment aforementioned: By living on their own land this family of travellers, The Smiths, are certainly taking their responsibilities seriously, but you can't see it can you? Additionally, I don't hold with your biased and stereotypical, illogical ideas and opinion, however I do respect our right to free speech.

They also own land near walton gardens, I have to say it is very well kept with litter bins and toilets, I found them quite frendly when I took my godson fishing. If they live like that there shouldnt be any complaints.

Its better for all if they live on their own land rather than a transit camp provided by the state..

i assume they pay income tax to also?!?!? i agree those who have their own land casue less disruption to others, but they do not have to live by the same rules we all have to! shall i just do cash in hand and waive any social responsibility i have towards the state (as much as i would like too!!).

Im not quite sure how you can be a 'traveller' and be fixed in one place?!?!

Why the hell were they given permission for the first two mobile homes?

My guess is that 2 mobile homes has a lesser impact on the countryside than the 10 the Smith's are now asking for.
