HOMEOWNERS in parts of the town are being told to prepare for the risk of flooding.

The Environment Agency has upgraded flood alerts to flood warnings which means flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

The affected areas are

  • Howley - including the Riverside Retail Park, Wharf Street, Wharf Street industrial estate, Riverside Close, Parr Street, Cleeves Close, Harbord Street, Fairclough Avenue and Sutton Street.
  • Fiddlers Ferry - including the Sailing Club, The Ferry Tavern and Riverside Trading Estate.

There is a general flood alert for the river Mersey estuary from Liverpool to Warrington but there are no warnings in place along this stretch of river.

We are off again. Flood alerts issued but no floods in this area since St John's School playing fields were flooded 20 odd years ago. A fiasco to get people panicing yet there is no notice of how we are to cope! Sandbags anyone?

Warning for Chester Road and Riverside retail park but not for Knutsford Road. How many unqualified people have been saying that the new "defenses" on Knutsford Road will either increase the risk in these areas (around Bevan Island etc), or that they dont address the issues of the bank heights differences (ie Howley/Riverside)

Wouldn't it have been useful for WG to include links to the relevant warnings on the EA website?

Lets see if the WG will get someone to knock on everyone's door and tell everyone about it and make a cup of tea if you live near water then be prepared is all they are saying. You should know the links if your in that category.

The Dr Who - surely you understand that as a news site, people expect to their news to appear here? Its certainly local companies advertise here. Its a centralised point for information. You could say "you should know the links" for any story written.
