POLICE say a search of the Mersey on Saturday morning was no hoax.

Emergency services were called around 10am to report a moped was in the Mersey near the Kingsway Bridge.

Police divers and the fire service searched the river and found a bike but no body.

A spokesman said: “We believe the call was made with good intent.”

so they didn't find a body but they find the bike so there is no chance that the water swept the body away Ok then must be a hoax

They wanna make there minds up , first they say its a body then a hoax and now its not a hoax but we can't find a body ! Has the bike been reported stolen ? Have they checked to see who it's registered too ??? Before they tell the public

Who wants to make up their minds? I haven't read anywhere where the emergency services have said it was a hoax. Yes, the guardian did report it was a false alarm BUT this information did not appear to come from the emergency services. Also, there is a difference between hoax (maliciously made prank call) and a false alarm (call made with the best of intentions but where the initial reason for the call turned out to be incorrect).
