A FIRE which destroyed a car and caravan of a home in Warrington is being treated as arson.

Firefighters were called to Manx Road, off Chester Road, around 5am on Friday to a report both vehicles were on fire.

They found flames had spread to the roof of two nearby vehicles and a front room.

Colin Heyes, the service's arson reduction manager, said: "We believe this fire was started deliberately.

"This sort of crime is extremely dangerous, the fire was very close to people's homes who were sound asleep when it started so it is lucky that no-one was seriously hurt.

"I would urge anyone with information about this crime to come forward and report what they know to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Cheshire Police on 101.

"People's homes and property have been destroyed and their lives put at risk so whoever did this crime needs to be caught."

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Officers are currently following a number of lines of enquiry and we ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time to please contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 107 of 16 November 2012."

Four firefighters needed four hoses to put the blaze out and the believe it was started deliberately.
