SHOPPERS in the town have been celebrating after bargain retail giant Primark revealed it is coming to Warrington.

The fashion store, which was recently placed in a survey at the top of Warrington shoppers’ retail wish list, is set to open in Golden Square in April 2013.

Ian Cox, general manager at the shopping centre, said: “Shoppers have wanted to see a Primark in the town for a long time now and this is not only great news for them but for the whole of the town.

“Primark will be a superb addition to the top brands that already help bring tens of thousands of visitors to Golden Square every week.”

The former Littlewoods store and the existing New Look store will merge to house the new 56,000 sq ft Primark store which will stock womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and homeware.

New Look will move into a new store near H&M within the shopping centre in early 2013.

Warrington Borough Council Leader Clr Terry O’Neill said: “This is a brilliant boost for the local economy.

“The announcement shows that big business has confidence in our town and we are thrilled that Primark has finally made the move.

“Retailers investing in Warrington is key to the lifeblood of the town and we hope that Primark’s arrival will enhance our existing offer even further.”
