A WOOLSTON man is aiming to battle through extreme weather in America to run the New York Marathon in memory of his mum on Sunday.

Matt Bold, of Durham Close is still hopeful of making the trip despite storm Sandy decimating parts of the city, leaving 40 dead.

The 39-year-old father-of-one is running for Marie Curie Cancer Care and St Rocco’s after losing mum Jean to cancer in May last year.

He said: “It will be really frustrating if the weather means it gets cancelled.

“There has been a lot of investment of time and I have got people’s donations.

“We are backing on a plane getting us there and secondly that the course and accomodation is ok.

“The marathon website says at the moment there is no plans to cancel it.”

Matt, who is running in his first marathon, is due to fly out today.

He is aiming to raise at least £1,250 for the charity and hospice.

There marathon is going ahead.

Despite the power outages and such, only one event has been cancelled due to NYPD man power.

Good luck with the Marathon.
