Super Ben ready for stage bow
IF Warrington Wolves’ Super League rivals want to know how to put the frighteners up Ben Westwood next season, all they need to do is hand him a script and push him on to a stage.
Fan favourite ‘Super’ Ben will star as Prince Charming in his testimonial pantomime Cinderella at the Parr Hall on December 9, and the 31-year-old had admitted he would rather tackle a charging Super League forward than another speaking role any time soon.
“I was scared at first, as I expected just to be just dancing and saying a few words,” said the second rower, who is celebrating a decade in primrose and blue having made his debut in 2002.
“When they came to me to ask if I wanted to do a decent size speaking part I said yes, but I was nervous.
“I’m just worried about remembering all my lines!”
Teammates Garreth Carvell, Paul Wood, Micky Higham and Tyrone McCarthy will all take to the stage alongside Westwood as part of the cast and they are hopeful that the prospect of seeing Wolves players in this unique environment will get people flooding through the doors.
“I know Woody and Micky are learning their lines while they are on holiday now, and I think all the players are looking forward to it,” said Westwood.
“It should be a great event and fun for everyone, not just the kids, as you will get to see a few Wolves players out of their comfort zone on that stage.”
Tickets for Cinderella, available from Wolfware, Warrington Asda stores and Baffitos restaurant, are priced at £12 for adults, £8 for concessions and £32 for a family of two adults and two children.
But the pantomime is just a part of the second rower’s action-packed testimonial events calendar, full details of which can be found at www.benniewestwood.co.uk
