Man charged in munition theft investigation

A MAN has been charged with stealing Ministry of Defence munitions from a freight train.

Philip Yates, aged 29, of Church Street, Birkenhead will appear before Birkenhead Magistrates Court today charged with theft.

Two other men arrested during the investigation have been bailed until December 3.

The munitions were stolen from a train travelling between Cumbria and Oxfordshire between 11.30am on Wednesday, October 24 and 7.30am on Thursday, October 25.

Seven of the ten packages were found near a railway line off Folley Lane, Dallam.

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
