Culcheth homes plans thrown out

Culcheth homes plans thrown out at Town Hall meeting Culcheth homes plans thrown out at Town Hall meeting

PLANS to build 26 homes in Culcheth have been thrown out by borough councillors.

Members of the development management committee voted to block the scheme led by Redrow Homes to build 26 homes on land facing Doeford Close.

Almost 50 residents packed the Town Hall for the meeting.

Residents and councillors voiced concerns over traffic, parking and health and safety from the nearby Orica UK explosives depot.

Clr Chris Vobe (Lab - Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft) said: "This was a tremendous victory for local people, who have fought tirelessly to protect this important green space from development.

"Arguments put forward by parish councillors and I illustrated the array of problems that an additional 26 properties would bring. Councillors made the right decision by rejecting Redrow's application.”

This is great! Living in Fearnhead with family in Cinnamon Brow and the whole Peel Hall farce, this is the result we want. I find it hard to beleive that anyone is anti-development for the sake of it but either it be 150 (well, more!) or 26 houses, if there is any negative impact on residents then the development is not needed! Well done Cllr Vobe and the 50 residents.

Yes congratulations on putting 26 familys out of a home & people out of jobs, get a grip this country needs more houses built to get people into them and stop overcrowding in houses, kids staying at home longer and to keep people in jobs (construction etc).

So kids stay at home longer because theres not enough 100-140k new homes not availiable for them to buy?! yeah right, Kids are staying at home because they are either in collaege, training or there are no jobs. That aspect has nothing to do with a 16 year old leaving school and buying a brand new house, get real MrWhite-or are you saying all 16 year olds must work in construction? The only person/people to benefit from this kind of development is the land owner themselves, not the residents, not the jobs market and certainly not school leavers who you think can afford a brand new home at 100-140K. Now go be a troll on some other news site.

No not all 16s should work in construction, but think of all the other jobs that go with building new homes, sales, marketing, admin etc, its not just land owners that benifit from having the houses built, example I live on a new estate on one of these "new houses" your so against - without these I would never have got on the property ladder, I'm sure otheres are the same so it is benifiting people and keeping people in jobs.

As for being a troll, why am I a troll just for having an opinion different to yours?

They should be building homes on other sites Mr White. There are plenty.

Every site that has been suggested recently has been rejected by NIMBY's

No it hasn't. That's a lie. Do you work for a developer or in the planning department?

I'm just pleased the council is finally standing up to the developers who want to cover every piece of green in Warrington with the backing of planners. Walton Locks is a perfect example of a brownfield development that serves a wide range of people without ruining the town's green spaces.

You didn't state your opinion, you had a worthless negative miserable comment based on you own stupid ideas that Warrington should become a forrest of bricks. That makes you an internet troll, lurking behind your keyboard waiting to put down peoples acheivments. We live in Warrington because there are nice green areas, we are happy that Warrington is not a free for all for developers to buy up, develop on and build not needed houses that leave existing residents with the hassle of the flat pack houses they build. Warrington is fine as it is MrWhite, if you disagree so much, then go purchase another brand new house somwhere else.

Wow, name calling! I forgot we're in the primary school playground, how very big and grown up of you - remind me of who the troll is again, someone with a different opinion or someone who resorts to calling people names and put downs to get a point across? ;-)

Yes, but Mr White, you've stated as fact that there are no housing developments taking place in Warrington because of NIMBYs. That's not true is it?

MrWhite: If you make comments like a primaryschool child, I'll treat you like one. Now hurry along you little troll ;)

Comments like a school child? Please point me in the direction of said comments? Seems like your limited to calling people trolls and insulting them with childish comments.

Grey_Man - There are many active developments (Regency Park, Riverside Point, Chapelford to name a few) but what about all the ones that have been turned down recently? Peel Hall & this one? ~176 homes IIRC, which would have kept people in jobs and got people into homes.

Yes. And covered over the town's green spaces. Are you suggesting we just hand the tow over to developers and let them do as they please?

Who do you work for?

MrWhite says...

Regency Park in Bewsey use to be wasteland, Riverside Point use to be factories/wasteland (if I remember correctly) and Chapelford was an airbase no one could go on - how have we lost 'green space'?

We have a growing population and insufficent housing its simple to work out.

I work for a design company in Runcorn, what does it matter? Do you need some flyers or a logo?

Are you arguing with yourself now? There are plenty of brownfield sites to develop, like the one I cited and the ones you mentioned.

Why were you arguing previously that green fields and parkland should be built on? That is what people are objecting to.

Do you know what day it is?

Dear Mr White, Regency Park was not wasteland but the site of Greenings Factory that employed over 1,000 people in it's heyday, but suffered like the rest of manufacturing in this country. If this was still a factory like so much of the North of England was, many people would be able to buy houses with money earned in employment.

Ireland and Spain tried to build their way towards prosperity by building houses, and with the aid of EU grants. That process failed in both countries, as did the EU expectations of its interventions. Both countries now have a housing surplus, with house prices at an all time low and unemployment at an all time high. Manufacturing in both is in decline. The EU budget has not been signed off by auditors for many years now because it is inherently flawed. Which says it all about the financial expertise of Euro politicians. It is an unfortunate myth that building houses is the pancea to our economic problems, would that it were. Rather than increasing house building it would be more beneficial for Warrington to spend money improving its infrastructure, which is diabolical, to meet future needs.

There are plenty of brownfield sites that are perfectly fit to build on. It's not as if development in this town is at a standstill either.. Just looking at the sprawling concrete eyesore that Chapelford is turning into.

Chris Vobe - Labour? I was under the impression he had been suspended by his party. Has he been reinstated?

I see Redrow have reacted maturely and started to erect a 2m high "Prisoner of War" style fence.

Don't worry we won't be beaten that easily. Plenty of evidence over the last 25 years to show this was used as a Village Green
