Minister confused about where Warrington is in health debate Minister confused about where Warrington is in health debate

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has hit out after a Government health minister confused Warrington, Halton and St Helens in a House of Commons debate.

She asked new junior health minister David Poulter for assurances that Warrington would not lose services if a merger with Whiston went ahead.

But Mr Poulter told MPs the Halton trust was looking to achieve foundation status and that Warrington would therefore be safe.

In fact, Warrington and Halton are part of the same trust and it is St Helens looking to become a foundation trust.

Helen Jones, Warrington North MP, said: “I am very concerned that the minister did not even seem to understand which trust he was dealing with.

“I have repeatedly asked for assurances that services at Warrington Hospital would not be downgraded or reduced.

“His answers gives me no such assurances not least because he doesn’t even understand which trust he is dealing with.

“As I said he has probably not been north of Watford but you would like to expect a minister to understand an area he covers.”

Ms Jones can talk. Last month she referred to Warrington and Halton NHS FT as North Cheshire hospitals and it hasn't been that for years!

mrs Jones is trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted. Warrington is already losing services over to Halton. Most of the orphapedics department is moving in the next 3 months

I'm sure that not 1 health minister would know the names of the 100+ NHS trust or what was going on in every single one if it wasn't in their own area or close by. Helen Jones like the rest of the Labour party are full of hot air and not one has apologised for the poverty that THEY have left the whole country in

Hedlen Jones MP, whatever you think of her was very much to the fore in trying to retain vascular services at Warrington, much against the advice of the medical experts. Halton, which is not too far away from Warrington- there is a regular free bus service between the two - offers some very advanced medical services available. For instance on the orthopaedic side knee and hip replacement ops used to done regularly at Halton.
