Dance and music mark launch of new culture company

DANCE, music and art marked that launch of the town’s new culture company on Saturday.

As reported in last week’s Warrington Guardian, Culture Warrington has taken over running the museum, Parr Hall and Pyramid.

And it was Pyramid, which celebrates its 10th anniversary later this month, which took centre stage on Saturday with a packed programme of events.

The day also marked the end of the town’s second Contemporary Arts Festival.

A range of dance and music events took place while visitors through the day could celebrate this year’s National Campaign for Drawing with the annual Big Dance Draw event.

Attention is now turning to what lies ahead.

As well as the anniversary celebrations, a packed programme of events is being lined up before Christmas in the cultural quarter while much is also planned around next year’s Rugby League World Cup.

Jan Souness, who runs Culture Warrington, said: “The Olympics has shown has the creative arts can also benefit from sport, because the Cultural Olympiad was such a success.

“And there is a real determination to do that again with the World Cup and we want to be really involved with that.”

Maureen Banner, chairman of the board of trustees, said: “The launch night was very successful and showed that Culture Warrington is about involving all parts of the town.”
