Village bar bids for late licence
10:00am Wednesday 24th October 2012 in News
A BAR in Stockton Heath wants to become a late night drinking spot by extending its licence to open until 3am.
Aries on Victoria Road is planning to apply to Warrington Borough Council to become the bar with the latest license in the village.
Councillors will attempt to block any application and say the move have a negative impact on neighbours.
Stockton Heath Clr Celia Jordan (LD) said: “We aren’t very happy about it.
“I think we ought to try things the way they are for a little longer.
“It is the worry of noise and disturbing residents late at night because some of them are very close.
“Three in the morning is a town centre business, not at Stockton Heath business.
“There are plenty of taxis and cars that can take people who want to drink late into the town centre.
“Once one bar does this the others will follow suit.”
Stockton Heath Parish Council is also planning to oppose any application.
Aries, a ‘luxury bar and venue’, currently opens on Fridays and Saturdays with a closing time of 1am.
That is in keeping with other bars in the area.
If the licence application is successfully submitted, it will be the only bar in Stockton Heath to open until 3am.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “Surely those who grant alcohol licenses can not let this happen?
“As a local resident I was with friends in Stockton Heath at around half past midnight when all that could be heard from the balcony above Aries was foul mouthed, drunken, loutish behaviour.
Now imagine this at 3am in what is currently a Cheshire community village?
“What was once an idyllic and historic place to visit will turn into the second Bridge Street once those who have ruined Warrington town centre decide to do the same to Stockton Heath.
“I implore Warrington Borough Council not to allow the destruction of Stockton Heath.”
Warrington Borough Council says it has yet to receive a formal application.
Bosses at Aries did not respond to requests for a comment.

1. most of the bars are tackey.
2. there is sooo much trouble there.
3. it is greared towards the younger generation.
where as the drink prices in stockton heath tend to put the yob culture off drinking late in the village. And in the same way us slightly older people are more likely tofeel out of place in town the younger revellers are likely to feel out of place in the village.
Finally the door staff on the bar in question run a strict policy of who can get in so trouble is far less likely.

There's no way mediaman. This will be the thin end of the wedge and soon Stockton Heath will turn into another Bridge Street. It needs to be turned down flat.
